I was browsing the web when I chanced upon this article about teething. Trev has 7 visible teeth now and a few more are already cutting through. We're lucky that he didn't suffer so much pain when his teeth started to come out. We bought him chilled teether but he really didn't want to bite on those. He loves biting on his wash cloth or the Pigeon Lip Trainer I bought for him from SM Baby Company.

Trev when he was around 6 months old, enjoying his Pigeon Lip Trainer. :-) |
So far, now, he seems to really not mind the teeth that are coming out, except for the occasional drooling! Haha!
Anyway, I would like to share this article about natural teething solutions. This could come in handy for mommies whose babies are on their teething stage.
1. A clean finger: A teething baby can benefit greatly just from having the
counter-pressure of mom or dad's pinkie finger to chew on for a while.
I never really tried this on Trev. My son has strong gums and his "gum bite" is really painful! Haha!
2. Frozen fruit: When Trev was teething, I used to give him frozen fruits like apples, grapes and pears. I just put the frozen fruits inside his food feeder. He loves munching on it!
3. Frozen washcloth: Yes, Trev also loves biting on his washcloth. We didn't even have to freeze it. He loves it as it is. :-)
4. Amber teething necklaces: Some moms swear by amber teething necklaces for getting past teething pain while others question their effectiveness, but either way, they're easy for mom to wear, pretty, and go with any outfit, so why not give them a try?
Amber teething necklaces are said to provide natural pain relief and soothing analgesic support during teething. I have read a few articles about baltic amber teething necklaces and I have chanced upon a few online sellers. But we never really tried this one. I'm just so afraid Trev might get choked with the beads if ever the necklace gets broken. (Paranoid mom lang ang peg!)
5. Nursing: Sometimes we just have to suck it up a bit, that meant a lot of extra nursing to help the
babes over some of the painful teething humps.
Although, his "gum bite" was painful, I never weaned Trev from nursing from me. It was that stage when a nursing mom might contemplate on giving up nursing her baby, but for us, it was not the case. Anyway, like I said, it's just a stage, so it will pass. So mommies, don't give up breastfeeding at this stage. Konting tiis lang. Yes, my nips suffered for a while, but that's okay. Now, Trev doesn't bite me anymore whenever he's nursing. Hooray!

It was mixed emotions for me when Trev's teeth started coming out. Sometimes, I feel like I miss his toothless grin, like in the pic below.
But then again, I realized that babies really do grow up so fast. My once toothless baby is now 1 year and 5 months old. :-)
How about you? Any other teething solutions? :-)

When my babies were teething, they just like to bite anything they get their hands on. I think it's the teething that causes them to bite the teets of their bottles, that's why they get cracked and have to be replaced.
ReplyDeleteI bought the teething ring from avent for my son, he did bite it for a while but he prefer biting us whenever he had a chance. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat we did with our son is to let the teether in the freezer or soaked in ice bath.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the days my baby brother was teething.
ReplyDeleteWhen our kids were on the teething stage we both a teether which they seldom use because they prefer to bite mommy and daddy's fingers. hahaha! They really grow so fast!
