Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp: Does Your Child Have What It Takes To Shine?

It's amazing how kids learn a lot of things in a short span of time. Their minds are like sponges, that's so true! Each one has their own phase of development and milestones. Some kids are advanced, some are more advanced. My 19-month old son Trev, whom I am still proudly breastfeeding, pretty much knows a lot of things already. Some he learned a few months ago, some he learned recently. He knows how to solve simple puzzles, he knows how to sort shapes, he knows parts of his body, he knows a few colors, he sings Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with these lyrics "Ka Ka Ka Ka..." (yeah, he can't pronounce it yet but that's okay), he dances, he scribbles, he plays so well with our tablet, he knows a few letters, numbers, animals and objects. And the list goes on and on. I am so glad and grateful that he's learning so many good things every single day. My husband and I have always been praying the best for our son. For him to always be healthy, full of love and respect, for him to be smart, talented, God-loving and for him to grow up to be a fine gentleman. Of course, all parents want the best for their kids. My son loves to sing and dance but I can hardly imagine his life with limelights and public attention because I myself practically grew up in a very simple and quiet environment. But who knows, if it's God's will, then I would happily embrace it! Anything for my son!

Just like the story of the recent winner of i-Shine Talent Camp, Lukas.

Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp: Does Your Child Have What It Takes To Shine?
“It was totally unplanned,” relays Cristina Magallano. “We were in the mall to get something before hitting the beach when someone from a mall audition approached Lukas to sing.” The audition turned out to be for the Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp, a reality TV show aired in ABS-CBN that aims to encourage parents to develop and support their child’s talent. Lukas went on to pass the audition reached the Top 50 and eventually become the show’s Grand i-Shiner.

Does your child have what it takes to shine? Perhaps every parent would answer this question with a resounding “yes.” After all, parents think that their children are the best or the number one. But really, what does it take for children to stand out and shine?

No one can give the definitive answer; but maybe looking at the story of 7-year old Lukas Enrique Magallano, Promil Pre-School 2012 Grand i-Shiner, will give us a clue.

When a little boy from Cebu starts to dream
A year ago, Lukas was just like any other ordinary boy in Cebu until a chance meeting in a local mall.

The mother and son journey to an I-Shine Stardom
When asked about his i-Shine experience, Lukas would readily tell you that it was “awesome” (his favorite superlative term); but his mom reveals a different side to the story.

Cristina knows that Lukas can sing but admits to being a little discouraged at one point. “Maybe it was because he never had formal singing or dancing lessons,” says Cristina. “Prayers and lots of guidance were my only weapons for someone without an inch of experience over those other talented kids ready to take the stage. I remember thinking that, had I known this would happen to Lukas, I should have enrolled him in formal singing, dancing and acting classes....” With prayers and guidance, Cristina’s faith and belief in Lukas talents helped her child to be shortlisted.

After the Top 50, Lukas went to Manila to compete in the reality show. From Cebu, they had to go to Manila for 2 weeks for the workshop and contest proper. For Lukas, dancing was the most difficult part of the competition. “

Lukas’ insistence paid off in the end as he went on to win the Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp after a 2-month course under the guidance of celebrities such as John Prats and Karylle. “Hearing my name after Direk Bobot said ‘and the grand i-Shiner ay walang iba kundi si…’ was my most memorable moment during the competition. I was so happy! If you saw me on TV, I really jumped for joy!”

Aside from staging the i-Shine Talent Camp, Cristina also gives due credit to Promil Pre-School for being Lukas’ milk of choice. “Promil Pre-School has always been our top choice ever since. It worked well with Lukas’ growing up years,” shares the i-Shine mom.

The next Justin Bieber?
In hindsight, Cristina was very thankful for the opportunity that was granted by Promil Pre-School to their family. “Looking at him enjoy the journey made me reflect that somehow he was also inclined to entertainment which I never imagined before the competition,” she says.

At the end of the day, innate talent and character, a supportive environment and proper tools for growth and nutrition all combine to make a child’s gift shine.

A year after the Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp, Lukas remains to be the same boy he has always been; albeit with an air of confidence that the competition has given him.  “He carries with him his experiences, the confidence and the dream to be next Justin Bieber,” relates Cristina. Because of the talent that was honed in him after the competition, Lukas, together with his Dad moved to Manila from Cebu. “We get surprised when people recognize and get very excited to take photos with him; he likes it though.”

Just like Lukas, your son or daughter can also have the unique opportunity to shine with the Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp. Already on its second year, it has grown to become bigger and better, offering more comprehensive development programs, bigger prizes and standout winners. Open to kids above three to seven years old, the program will be divided into three main performing categories—singing, dancing and acting—with the top scorers bringing home P200,000 in cash. The Grand i-Shiner, determined by the participant with the highest marks, will also bring home an additional P300,000 in cash, Star Magic and Promil Pre-School Talent contracts and 1-year supply of Promil Pre-School.
The Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp 2 will be joined by high caliber mentors to help the kids reach their full potential. One of the distinguished mentors is award-winning actor, recording artist and movie producer Piolo Pascual. With Piolo are acclaimed stage actress and acting teacher Pinky Amador and G-Force founder, dance instructor and choreographer Georcelle Dapat.

Hosted by actress Dimples Romana, racing prodigy and actor Matteo Guidicelli and actor, model and singer Xian Lim, the Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp 2 premieres June 8 on ABS-CBN Channel 2 before Be Careful With My Heart (Rewind).

  1. It's important for parents to really support our children and encourage them to do their best in whatever field that we see them shining through! :) It's also a must for us parents to spend a lot of quality time and to let them know how much we love them for them to grow secure and confident about themselves. :)
