I have been seeing this on my FB Timeline for a few days now and it got me curious, so I watched the video. I figured it would be nice to share it here too to serve as a warning, especially to those who take pictures of their kids using their cellphones (smart phones). I never thought they could actually track your location by just doing some clicks on your uploaded pictures taken using your smart phones. That sounds scary, don't you think?
"Pictures you've e-mailed or uploaded from your smartphone could leak information that can threaten your safety or that of your children. -- NBC Action News"
If you haven't seen this yet, please have time to watch this almost 4-minute video and follow the recommended precaution (shown towards the end of the video so be sure to finish watching the vid) to avoid any danger when posting pictures on the social media. Better be safe than sorry.
And may I just borrow a line from GMA-7 because I believe in it and it's really true, "Think Before You Click!".
Here's the video I got from this link.
Feel free to pass this message to anyone you know who you think is using their smart phones to take pictures and posting it online. Be safe everyone!
I'm bookmarking this post. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWe need to take cautions then...for our family safety. Thanks for this post. It would help a lot!
ReplyDeleteWell this is indeed scary, perhaps aside from turning off the GPS and the location tracking of the camera we should also not let our kids talk to strangers and people they don't know.
ReplyDeleteI saw this video..it really is scary. For me I have already disabled GPS tracking on my phone and facebook account and even instagram account. I also do not do real time updates unless needed by clients.. so it guards my privacy.
ReplyDeleteI saw this on my FB too. You know what else I am worried about? I read a mom's post about taking photos of her kids' toilet training and putting them in her blog. She found out later that her photos were used in some pervert's sleazy site. That is why nga sometimes I am scared putting pixes of us on my blog din...
ReplyDeletei don't overshare on social media too. and as much as possible, i never turn on the GPS option when i update my status either on twitter, fb or instagram. i'll check this video once i get home later (bawal kasi dito sa office). :)
ReplyDeleteI do take pictures from my smartphone but I don't post pics from there to any social media sites. First, I don't want to incur data charges. I am also very selective of what pictures I upload. That's right, think before you click.
ReplyDeleteThere's really a danger in oversharing....
ReplyDeleteone of technology's downside saw this on yahoo news few days ago
ReplyDeleteIn any gadgets there are Pros and Cons, we need to be vigilant and responsible users.
ReplyDeleteThis was a report 3 years ago. People say there is better privacy controls now. Nevertheless, one has to think before putting something out on the internet especially when it concerns the children.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely scary. After I first saw this video, I was extra cautious at what I share.
