Home-made No Bake Mango Cheesecake

Home-made No Bake Mango Cheesecake
My home-made no bake mango cheesecake. :-)

I have been craving for a yummy cheesecake since my first failed attempt at making one during my son's 3rd birthday (Yes, I made an Oreo Cheesecake for him but for reasons I don't know, I totally forgot to include the sugar, so just imagine how it tastes like, haha!). Anyway, a few days before Christmas day, I decided I should try making one again. This time, I prepared a mango cheesecake. Well, I didn't forget the sweetener (condensed milk) this time but I failed again at one thing, which was, well, very minor naman. The result was way much better than my Oreo version, hihi!

Anyway, here goes. I was searching for an easy no bake version of a cheesecake when I stumbled upon a recipe from Yummy.ph. I just did some tweaks here and there to satisfy my and my family's taste buds.

Here's the ingredients that I used.

‘Tis The Season For The SM Pamaskong Handog Para sa Global Pinoy

How did your Christmas go? Ours was simple but absolutely memorable. I can't wait to tell you about it. I am sure glad that we're all together during this special season.

I bet it would be difficult if you or one of your loved ones is away from you during this time. That's why I salute all our OFWs for all their hardwork and sacrifices. It must really be very hard working away from their families. Surely one of their absolute happiness is to be able to spend time with their loved ones especially during this season.

That's why for this year's holidays, let us not forget the sacrifices of our OFWs that have been working hard in another country and missing Christmas here in the Philippines. Here's a video from SM Global Pinoy that will truly touch your heart.

An OFW mother was given the best Christmas she has ever had.

Be sure to get your tissues ready. :-)

From the press release:

Coming home has never been this sweet as SM Global Pinoy honored an OFW who came home to spend Christmas together with her loved ones. This tribute video is SM Supermalls’ way of saying ‘thank you’ to OFWs for their hard work and support, not only for their families, but also to the SM Global Pinoy Program.

One Less Thing to Worry About on Your Wedding Day

Colgate Optic White Makes Brides’ Dreams Come True

Last September, the Colgate Optic White Dream Wedding Promo was launched giving brides-to-be a chance to have the wedding dream team, Jason Magbanua and Pat Dy cover their special day.

From all the hopeful brides who sent in their entries, Precious V. Pasia will be having her dream wedding captured by Jason and Pat.

Our First Christmas Tree

Finally, last December 1, we were able to put up our very own Christmas tree. Yes, this time, a real one. Not real real, but, yeah, you know what I mean. Remember our tree last year? :-)

We moved in here at our home sweet home December of last year and moving in was a lot of work (and required a lot of expenses, too! hihi!) so we were not able to buy and put up our Christmas tree then. Now, we're still in that state here at our home where we still need a lot of work to be done but we decided that it's time for us to put up our tree. So, off we went to the mall and bought an affordable but pleasant looking tree.

Promil Pre-School is Formulated with Nutrissentials to Unleash the Natural Potential of Every Child

Every parent wants the best for their children – from providing the highest quality of education, all the way down to basic resources that he or she may need. Parents are always on the look out for everything and anything to equip their children to reach their full potential, and proper nutrition is no exception.

Recent studies show that 2 cups of milk is optimal for most preschoolers1. It is one of the best sources of Vitamin D and Calcium1 because it is composed of 3 basic foundation nutrients – Carbohydrates, Proteins, and Fats2. While these macronutrients are present in every glass of milk, the quality of the milk is not always the same.

A good balance of high quality foundation nutrients are needed to unleash the natural potential of every child. The best way to decode the nutrition puzzle is to understand these basic nutrients.

Carbohydrates are energy-providing nutrients. They can also be separated into groups based on the Glycemic Index, which measures how high and how quickly blood glucose levels change after eating carbohydrates. For a healthy diet, it is best to focus on high-quality carbohydrates or foods with low Glycemic Index, including dairy products like milk3

Proteins are the building blocks of cells. They make up the framework upon which all cells are built. High-quality or complete proteins contain all the indispensable amino acids in the appropriate amounts needed by humans4. An excellent source of high-quality proteins is milk, whose major proteins are whey and casein, which are both excellent sources of all essential amino acids5

Contrary to popular belief, not all fats are bad for the body. Fats play an important role, helping the body maintain its core temperature, absorb nutrients, and provide an alternate source of energy when carbohydrates are not available6. Fats can be classified into saturated fats and unsaturated fats. The healthier dietary fats are mostly unsaturated, which are further classified into Monosaturated fats, Polyunsaturated fats, and Omega-3 fatty acids7

Promil Pre-School, trusted by generations, is formulated with Nutrissentials – high quality foundation nutrients such as unsaturated fats from plant-based oil, carbohydrates with lactose, and whey protein, which are sourced from the best of nature and strengthened by science.

Bear Brand Milk Drink Reinforces TIBAY through “Ang Alamat ng Matibay” Children’s Book

The tradition of storytelling with children is not limited to entertainment but has also been shown to be an important component of literacy skill development.  Research consistently supports the positive impact when a parent and teacher use storytelling to increase childhood literacy skills. Children who are part of storytelling activities are more prepared for reading and writing; general language skill increases; their vocabulary and word comprehension is enhanced; they are likely to improve knowledge in both broad and specific topics; and their creativity, imagination and memory are expanded.

That is why Nestle Bear Brand launched the ALAMAT NG MATIBAY BOOK in partnership with DepEd, The Storytelling Project, Klasrum ng Pag-asa, and National Bookstore.

As part of its continuing efforts to help nourish generations of Filipino families to good health, BEAR BRAND Powdered Milk Drink has added a new dimension to its TIBAY campaign with the launch of its first children’s book entitled Ang Alamat ng Matibay, which highlights the importance of tibay ng kalooban.

Trev's Monsterrific 3rd Birthday

I have always wanted a monster-themed birthday for my little boy, Trev. Last year, we were supposed to do it but things turned out differently because we were on the process of acquiring our very own home sweet home. Which is, of course, for him and his future also. So, we decided to not have a party for him then. Instead, we celebrated his 2nd birthday with our yearly photoshoot at Pic-A-Boo and had a simple lunch after.

This year, I thought of holding his 3rd birthday party here at home, but again, it didn't happen as we still have a lot of works to do here (yes, after almost one year of moving in, hihi!). But since we already enrolled Trev in a playschool this year, we just decided to have a simple celebration at his school with his classmates and teachers. And Trev was so happy. His Tatay and I, too. :-)

Of course, his simple party was monster-themed. Hihi! If it was held here at our home, I would have DIYed a lot more decors and stuff because making those cute looking monsters are sooo much fun! Anyway, it's okay. I'm still very happy with what I ended up doing. My son loves (me thinks, hihi!) all the cute little monsters I made for him. By the way, I simply DIYed his giveaway loots and designed the juices' cups with monster faces. We also ordered a fondant monster-cake, which if I may say, was super cute, too!

Here are some pics from his birthday celebration.

Striking a pose with my DIY monster juice and loot bags. He just loves every one of these. So worth the effort.  :-)

Home-made Ice Cream with Oreo Cookies

Here's another home-made recipe I found from the FB group that I am a member of. Credit to all those who keep on sharing their recipes. It really gives moms like me new adventures in the kitchen which makes the whole family happy! Thank you for this recipe. :-)

School Update: Trev's First Trimestral Results

This post is actually way too late already as they've taken their exams last August pa. But then, I still wanted to document this milestone as it's really a one proud Nanay moment for me (and proud Tatay moment for hubby, too!).

Trev and his classmates took their first ever trimestral exam last August and I was one nervous mom because I don't know how my son will perform. But, at the same time, I always have this trust in him because he really loves school, he loves doing his assignments and he loves reading. We always study at home and he always enjoyed those moments.

Their teacher said that toddlers will take their exam within 4 days, meaning, no pressure, whenever the child's ready. They could do it on the first, second or third day. They will do it on a one on one basis so they could focus on each child. On the second day of their exam week, I thought of looking through the classroom's window to know what the kids were doing. I saw some kids were in one table with their teachers, while my child was on another table, lacing a string through an envelop. I thought, why was my son not taking his exams. Then, later, when the teacher aide came out, she said that Trev was the first one to finish his exams. He did it on the first day. I was surprised and relieved at the same time, hihi!

Anyway, when the exam results were released, my hubby and I were so happy and proud of our little boy because he did a great job!

Perfect score! Thank God!

Trev Had A Hair Cut

Uhmm, let me rephrase that. I mean, I cut Trev’s hair! Hihi! Actually, we were supposed to go to our friendly neighbourhood barber shop two weekends ago for Trev’s 4th haircut. Well, the my original plan was for Trev to have his hair cut after his 3rd birthday, but since it’s kind of growing long again, we decided to bring him to the barber shop na.  The decision was made final already before that day and I was already convinced and decided to cut my son’s long hair (again), so the morning before we were supposed to go to the barber shop, I told hubby that I would just cut the long part of Trev’s hair so I could keep it before we head on to the barber shop. So, I did.

But what do you know, after I cut it, we decided otherwise. Yes, we decided to just keep his hair as is na lang and postpone his “real” hair cut next time. Haha!

I kind of miss his long hair already. Sort of nanghihinayang din because we've never cut that part of his hair since he was born. Yan talaga yung part ng baby hair niya. So, the sentimental me kept that lock of his hair as remembrance. Hihi!

PH Envisioned To Lead ASEAN In Developing Standards For The Gifted

A Philippine organization is posed to spearhead the establishment of an (ASEAN) Association for Giftedness to leverage economic growth through human capital development.

Non-profit group Philippine Center for Gifted Education Inc. (PCGE), led by Dr. Leticia Ho, is working towards creating standards for ASEAN member countries to ensure robust criteria for identification, development and nurturing of gifted children.

“While the ASEAN integration aims to unite the ten member countries into one economic, multi-cultural community, development of its human capital is definitely a vital component,” says Dr. Ho.

Trev The "Spidey"

It’s been a while since I last posted here, I mean really posted something about us. I know I’ve been saying this time and again, but really, I’ve just been very busy with a lot of stuff. Mostly mommy duties of course. No complaints though, loving every moment of it. :-)

Anyway, I just want to show you who visited our home the other day, haha!

Cord Blood: A New Hope For Leukemia

A video of a mother from Quebec fighting against leukemia recently went viral in YouTube. Her desperate plea – to find a compatible umbilical cord donor, the only hope for her second battle against leukemia[i].
Mai Duong, a 34-year-old Vietnamese-Canadian mother is among the many patients diagnosed of cancer every four minutes. Leukemia - cancer of the body’s tissues that are responsible for forming blood including bone marrow and lymphatic system is among the top eight common cancers in the Philippines.
In 2005, the Philippine Cancer Society recorded 4,202 new cases, 2,243 of which is among males with 3.9 percent incidence rate while 1,959 cases were recorded among females with an incidence rate of 3.6 percent. With an average 5-year survival rate of only 25 percent, an estimated 3,498 deaths are expected with 1,863 in men and 1,635 among women[ii].
Normally, the body produces and grows the white blood cells in an orderly way. But for people with leukemia, their bone marrow produces white blood cells that are abnormal either in number or function.

Trev And His "Pets"

My son loves to pretend play. Often times, he would imagine holding a dog or a cat, or even a bunny. Other times, he would imagine driving a digger or a bus. There were even times when we're walking our way out of the village going to school, he would tell me that he’s holding his violet (yes, violet daw talaga, haha!) cat in his left hand and that he’d bring it in school also. Haha! Whenever we read books, he’d always extend his arm and “grab” something from the pages, turns out he’s pretending that he’s holding whatever the character in the book is, say a pony or a pig. I guess, he loves pets as much as he loves different kinds of vehicles.

Well, hubby and I are thinking of getting a real pet for him but as of the moment, we just couldn’t, yet, for several reasons. Of course, we have to consider a lot of things before we finally get one. Like where his pet will stay, food it will eat, vitamins or even medicines for when the pet gets sick, like vetprofen perhaps.

For now, while we haven’t finally decided yet, I guess he’s very much content with his imaginary pets. And oh, he’s happy with his fluffy friends here, too.

Meet his friends, Fulgoso and Sab. Those were actually his Tatay's birthday gifts to me when Trev was still a small baby. Obviously, my son is now the happy owner of those stuffed animals. Cute! :-)

Home-made Graham Cake Balls

Graham cake balls has been trending in one of the mom groups where I belong to in Facebook. A lot have been so generous in sharing their own version of this dessert. Since I am a self-confessed dessert lover myself, I decided to try making it, too. Got all the ingredients I needed the other day and went to work.

Agemono International Buffet

We went to Robinson's Place Malolos the other weekend to buy some stuffs for Trev and of course for some fun family bonding. Just walking around the mall is already fun for us, hihi!

Trev enjoyed riding on the train that goes around the ground floor of the mall. He just loves train! He wanted to ride on the other cars available but we were not able to come back after some more strolling so, next time na lang.

Anyway, I just want to share with you our new found go-to-place if you want some affordable but yummy buffet or just simple but satisfying ala cartes. We've seen Agemono International Buffet the first time we visited Robinson's Place Malolos and it got us really curious because we saw that their buffet offering only costs Ph299! Very affordable! (Agemono International Buffet offers both Japanese and Filipino cuisine.)

The second time we visited the mall, we decided to have our lunch there. However, instead of the buffet, we first tried their ala carte and I must say that it did not disappoint.

Kid's Workshop: It's More Than Just Play

I have blogged several times here that we often visit play areas (ex. indoor play areas at the mall) given that, before, we used to have no place or space at home for Trev to play around and meet new playmates. Before Trev even started schooling, we have often brought him to one to somehow help him in his physical and social development. Thank God because we are now blessed with a humble place for him to run around and play, but we still sometimes treat him to an afternoon of fun time and he's always enjoyed his time whenever we do visit at one.

That's why when I received an invitation from Kid's Workshop for a one day unlimited play for Trev, I gladly accepted and reserved a date. So, the other weekend, we went all the way from Bulacan to Greenhills. And I must say that the travel was well worth it! We all had a blast!

*******

Let me share our story with the help of these photos. :-)

Warning: Photo loaded. :-P

How time flies! It seems like yesterday I was cradling a little newborn in my arms. I can still vividly remember the day I gave birth to my son, Trev. Now, he's almost 3 years old and he's really an amazing little boy. He's truly our greatest pride and joy.

I'm Still Here! :-)

Since the start of the school year, I haven’t really been able to blog as often as I used to do. Not that I am complaining, don’t get me wrong. As a matter of fact, I am enjoying this moment because I get to bring and see my son in school daily. I get to see how he’s doing, I get to prepare his things and baon every single day. And I get to homeschool him, albeit informally, too. I wouldn’t exchange it for anything else. Being a stay at home wife and mom is both challenging and rewarding. But it definitely is priceless. And I am absolutely loving it! :-)

Here's my son. I really love spending time with this little guy. :-)

Anyway, this is just a quick post to let you know that I am still here, just under a bit of a blogging hiatus. I will be back with more stories soon. I have a lot to share with you already. I want to make some changes with my blog design, too. And if only I have my own blogger logo, I might as well try to print my logo on a tablecloth, too. Haha! Kidding.

So, please stay tuned. Thank you and see you around! :-)

Trev Says Cute Things!

It's been weeks since I last updated my blog. I miss blogging but I don't know how to start after that long hiatus. I have a lot of things to share and make kuwento about but I just couldn't find the time. Hoping to squeeze in a few.

This post has been sitting in my draft folder for as long as I can remember. Most of the entries here happened a few months back. Anyway, I still wanted to share this here because I really find it so amusing. Kids really say the cutest things!

Anyway, here are some of Trev's.

Hubby: Atreiu, count from one to twenty na, anak.

Free Download of Breastfeeding Book in Support of World Breastfeeding Week 2014

My son Trev is now 2 years and 9 months old, is already in school and I am happy to say that he's still breastfeeding until now. Yes, 33 months into it and like I always say, no plans of weaning him yet, as long as he still wants to nurse from me, I would be very happy to continue with our journey. It's absolutely worth it! We're really very thankful for this blessing.

Anyway, remember the very inspiring book BREASTFEEDING: A Journey Worth Taking where I feel really honored that our breastfeeding story of triumph (and other moms' from different walks of life, too) was published? Well, I have great news for all of you moms and would-be moms! The book is now available on Amazon Kindle!

Read on to find out more about it. :-)

Georcelle Dapat-Sy: Dancer, Mentor, Mother

Teacher G talks about unlocking latent talent in young kids

Georcelle Dapat-Sy is first and foremost a dancer – mention “dance” and her name is bound to crop up in the entertainment circle of the local industry. Her dedication and commitment to her craft has earned her a niche in a saturated industry that will make room for someone who has worked hard to distinguish her talent. However, Georcelle’s talent in grace in motion is not confined to the stage or the studio alone; it spills over into her personal life, in her mothering, and ultimately in her mentoring of the next generation at large.

Once again, Georcelle gets involved in Promil’s Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp, which aims to tap the inert talents of the very young and to help them wield the potency that they hold inside.

“The Promil Pre-school program is about recognizing talent. When the potential is seen in a young person, it is categorized,” Georcelle says. Whether innate intelligence or a natural inclination for arts, the mother of three is keen on picking out kids who are naturals in dancing. And this is when the fun starts.

Georcelle knows the benefits of early intervention or starting the mentoring while they’re soft and pliant. She herself started out that way.

Bento Snack Baon: Hearts & Circles, Etc.

Hello there! How are you all doing? I hope you're all safe after the storm Glenda. Trev's classes were suspended for two days last week but now, we're back on track although there are still occasional rains like today.

Anyway, here's the bento snack baon I prepared for the little one three weeks ago! Huhu, yeah, that long ago. As in super back log na ito.

Monday: Hearts and circles. Well, I just noticed that this baon is composed of both hearts and circles, so I named it that. Haha! Heart-shaped cheese sandwich, heart-shaped tamagoyaki, circle oatmeal cookies, and mango balls. Even his yogurt drink is strawberry flavored, which happened to have a shape like a heart, too. And oh, I used heart-shaped food picks pala! Haha!

Trev In School Uniform

Taking a picture of Trev in school uniform is a challenge! Haha! I don’t know why but whenever he’s wearing his uniform and I ask him to pose for a photo, he would automatically refuse and would run in and out of the house just to hide! Ang cute lang, hihi!

Anyway, he’s always excited to go to school. As you can see in the photo, he already got our door keys and was trying to open the door. He just loves school and we’re so glad he does. He always says "Go to school! Go to school! Let's go!".

My effort in trying to take a picture of him while wearing his uniform (and suspenders, hihi!).
Tinatakbuhan talaga ako!

Trev's Home Reading Nook

One of Trev's activities in play school is called "Show And Tell". They do it every Friday. On their first week, his teacher asked the class to bring a picture of their home reading nook.

Trev loves books. Too sad that the only store here at Waltermart that sells preloved children's books has already closed. Huhu.

Anyway, when Trev started schooling, he became even more inlove with his books. As in he would ask me or his Tatay to read him books almost non-stop. We'd read several books in one sitting. Haha! And we're really happy about that. Now, he doesn't even remember he used to love watching cartoons (although they're educational cartoons naman like Word World). He prefers reading his books. If he's not reading, he's painting or tracing or playing with his building blocks.

So, here's what we submitted to his teacher for his home reading nook project. This project made me wish na sana Trev has a book shelf of some sort at home. Sigh. Wala kasi eh. And I really want to buy more books for him pa. He just loves them talaga! Sana pala when his god parents were asking me what gifts I want for Trev, I should have said books na lang. Haha! :-P

The first two pictures were taken at our living room. That's the toddler chair and table we bought for him when he was more than a year old pa lang. We just changed the cover lang and put plastic cover na rin. :-)

Packaging and Practicality

One of the things that get consumers attracted to a product is its packaging. Usually, when a product, say a dishwashing liquid or a shampoo perhaps, is contained in a bottle that’s convenient to use, consumers tend to consider buying it. It’s also a practical way to save because mostly, these containers could be reused for other purposes like pouring your liquid detergent from a pouch to your empty pumped bottle.

There are actually online market places that make creative containers and packaging, like Allinpackaging. So, if you’re planning to sell your own merchandise, say a Do-It-Yourself or home-made perfume or soap, you could choose the best containers for your product, so as in a way, could also attract customers.

There are a lot of varied containers to choose from, from tubes to pumps to jars to canisters, name it. And usually these companies offer labelling as well, so it sure is a great deal!

For those practical people like I am, let’s try to see what containers or packaging are best to use and reuse as well:

Potty Training Success!

Hello there! Been a while. Happy to update again. :-)

Since my son Trev started schooling, my days have always been full and I barely have time to blog these days. Huhu. But, nevertheless, I am enjoying every bit of it! Yesterday, one of his classmates celebrated her 2nd birthday at school and it's cute pala when kids celebrate inside the classroom. Kaaliw! The kids were all very happy! Trev went home with a very cute Olaf backpack full of goodies!

Anyway, I would just like to share with you my son's potty training journey. If you've stumbled, by any chance, upon my blog before, you might have read about one of our struggles in potty training Trev. I am so happy to tell you that he's finally getting the hang of it! Hurray!

Last month, we bought him a potty trainer. Confession, one of the things that I honestly forgot when we thought it was time for us to potty train Trev was to buy a potty trainer. Haha! Of all the things! I thought kasi it would come to him naturally to learn to use the rest room. I never realized that a potty trainer is of great importance din pala. Well, I guess, it's a case to case basis pa rin, it depends. I guess some kids were able to learn how to relieve themselves without the use of a potty trainer.

In our case, it was very useful. Like I mentioned above, I told hubby that we should get Trev a potty trainer so when we were shopping for his school supplies last month at Trinoma, I took the chance to look for one, too, at The Landmark. Gladly, we found the perfect potty trainer for him!

This was actually one of the most affordable potties on display at Ph319. I love its simplicity. No frills and very easy to clean, too. And oh, it's also convertible to a toddler chair when your child has finally learned how to use the real potty, err the toilet bowl! :-)
