Cloth Diaper: Sunbaby Trainers

So, I have already shared with you a comparison between the Sunbaby Size 2 cloth diaper and Alva 4.0. This time around, let's talk about the next fluffy mail I received last month.

Before anything else, let me just show you the picture of this happy little guy when the package arrived.

The pink/peach cloth diaper (CD) isn't mine. It's for my former officemate's daughter. She just requested me to order it for her, so I got it together with Trev's trainers. By the way, it's an Alva Big Baby. I just included it in the pic so you would see it, too, and probably have a reference in case you're planning to get one. Anyway, notice the difference in size? :-)

I got Trev one piece of Sunbaby Trainers from Thrifty Mama Shoppe. I fell in love with the Sunbaby Size 2 CD, so I thought I would also like to try the trainers for Trev this time. So, I got him one.

First impression: When I opened the package and saw the trainers, I thought immediately that it is very very similar with Sunbaby Size 2 in terms of materials used. The only difference I saw was the design and cut since this one looks like a pull up pants/diapers.

Anyway, let's all take a closer look.

This is how it looks like front and back.

For the pocket, here's how it looks like.
Cloth Diaper: Sunbaby Trainers

  1. Like the Sunbaby Size 2, the pocket also has a flap for a cover. Other CDs don't have a flap like that, instead the pocket is at the top part with elastic garter.
  2. Here's how the pocket looks like. This is where you will insert the insert.
  3. The insert inside the pocket.

You've seen the pocket, now you may want to take a closer look at the inner lining. Like what I have mentioned above, it is the same with Sunbaby Size 2.

The inner lining's fabric is a super soft micro fleece.

When you uncover the lining, you will see the waterproofing part of the trainers which is, again, the same with Sunbaby Size 2. It's outer shell is made up of a thinner higher quality PUL (polyurethane laminate).

Unlike Sunbaby Size 2 though, this training pants use a 4-layer XL bamboo insert. Lookie!
Cloth Diaper: Sunbaby Trainers
  1. It's longer by about an inch, if my estimate is correct (I didn't measure it kasi), compared to the Sunbaby Size 2 4-layer Micro Fiber (MF)  insert.
  2. Comparing it with the 4-layer MF insert of Sunbaby Size 2. The above pic is the trainers' insert while the one below it is the MF insert of Sunbaby Size 2.
  3. A closer look of the 4-layer bamboo insert.

As for the parts of this nappy, here's what you can find.
Cloth Diaper: Sunbaby Trainers
  1. Like the regular Sunbaby CD, the trainers also has rise/front snaps (Small, Medium, Large).
  2. It has side snaps to adjust the size on the waist area. Two adjustments are provided.
  3. Unlike the regular Sunbaby CD, this one has both front and back with super stretchy elastic garter to better fit bigger babies ranging from 20 to 45 lbs (based from their website).
  4. This is how it looks like when set to the large setting.
 ***************

Curious about how it compares to Sunbaby Size 2? Well, I tried to put them together side by side to see any other differences or similarities. You see, based on what I saw, both have almost the same features, except for the design. Trainers obviously are pull ups.
Cloth Diaper: Sunbaby Trainers

  1. Side by side with Sunbaby Size 2. Not much of a difference, except the cut.
  2. Same size all around.
  3. The Sunbaby Size 2 has tummy laminate while the trainers has none.
  4. When set on the large setting, they look almost the same size. I guess the reason why the trainers look a wee bit smaller is because of the elastic garters around the waist.

After thorough inspection, here's the little guy being goofy with his first ever Sunbaby trainers.

Notice  his "wacky" shots at the bottom? Well, he was the one who kept doing these poses and asking me to take his shots! Haha! Silly cute kid. :-P

What I can say:

Well, I like it just like how I like Sunbaby Size 2. I was just wondering why it's called trainers when the inner lining is also stay dry. Maybe it's just me and please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought, since this is supposed to be used to train a toddler to use the potty ("trainers" di ba?), isn't it supposed to make him feel at least the wetness inside? I guess it's more like a pull up cloth diaper than a trainer. Anyway, it's still good as it is, especially for toddlers who prefers to use pants over diapers. It still works great nonetheless.

What I also love about it is that the insert is removable just like any other cloth diapers. Some trainers I think has their insert already sewn permanently in the nappy. I prefer that it's removable so I can really clean and wash it thoroughly especially when poop accidents happen.

So, that's it. In summary, I like Sunbaby CDs, trainers and the regular CD. I love that it's light, soft and breathable and I can actually see that my baby looks and feels comfy wearing it. Plus, it doesn't leak! Yay!

Anyway, I am curious about Alva Awesome Night Diaper and Mikiwili trainers. Sadly, I don't have enough budget for that for now. Haha!

Have you tried Sunbaby trainers yet? How was your baby's experience? Any other brands that you could suggest? :-)

Disclaimer: I am not an expert on this. I am a newbie and I still have a lot to learn about CDing. This post is just to share what I have observed so far on these particular cloth diapers. :-)

  1. In a few more months, you can start potty training him sis :) How old is Trev again sis? I started no diaper for Julie and Julia between the ages of 2 to 3. Then potty trained na sila by 3. But diaper parin sa gabi though. Julia learned no diaper at the age of 3 though.

  2. He's 2, sis. I'm potty training him na sis. During day time, he's on his briefs lang, tapos in the afternoon and evening, he's CDing, bedtime he's using DD pa rin. Although he isn't potty trained yet, pero I'm not rushing him naman. I know he will learn soon, in his own time. I will wait and keep training him. Hihi! :-) Thanks, sis!

  3. You really got into this cloth diapering good for you, it really look good on trev it's not very obvious that his wearing diaper not like the disposable ones. I saw a lot of those in the store but never buy one because it's time consuming for me when it come to washing.

  4. I love Alva's lining because it's not micro fleece.. smoother surface.

  5. Alva 3.0 ata has suede for its inner lining. Like ko yung lining ng Alva Big Baby, makinis, suede din yun. Pero yung Alva 4.0, nagtataka ako ba't medyo rough ng konti although as far as I know, suede din ata siya. I haven't seen Alva 3.0 in person pero based on reviews, marami rin may gusto. :-)

  7. Those are cool prints, one that would make the kiddo love wearing it. Thanks for sharing about CDs. I wanted to use them for Kristoff, but I wasn't able to.

  8. I like this concept of CDs. When my kids were little, there were no cloth diapers like this.

  9. Do you think it's easier to transition to potty training when a baby uses CDs? My nephew is on disposables, and hasn't really started potty training yet.

  10. I was excited to use Clothe Diapers when I got pregnant again, But we lost our baby and I promised myself to share the importance of Clothe Diaper to my friends. One of my BFF's is exclusively using clothe diaper for her son.

  11. I am over this phase but we did start with the cloth diapers with pins which we had to wash followed by the diapers moms know these days. Young moms are really lucky because they have more options now!

  12. It's never too late to start, diba? Trev really looks so cute in cloth diapers hehe. Actually, that's the reason why I didn't buy trainers. Baka kasi no difference lang from cloth diapers. I want Yuri to really recognize it when he pees. Kaya undies lang kami, yung cotton briefs, tapos ordinary CDs during naps. :-)

  13. I'm curious. Were these easy to pull up and down like a pull up?
